Your Carriage Awaits
In Robocraft Royale, you start in a very simple four wheeled buggy equipped with a single laser cannon. Scattered across the map are robots with various movement modes ranging from tank tracks to wings. You will have to choose the best robot for your playstyle and fight 100 other players for domination.
Recognizing the Designers
We wanted a nice variety of cool sci-vehicles, but also the funny and silly robots that are the core character of Robocraft. We settled on 500 different robots that covered all the various movement and weapon types, as well as visual styles, but we didn’t have time to make 500 unique and effective robot designs. Luckily, we had a large library of community designs, and the Community Robot Factory (CRF) from Robocraft allowed us to quickly populate a list of effective and interesting robots.
Additionally, using the CRF meant we could give the original designer credit for their design within Robocraft Royale. This is great, because if things go as we hope, we’ll be able to make a direct connection to the CRF and reward designers who create great robots for Robocraft Royale.
Getting a Better Ride
As mentioned earlier, you start in a basic combat rover and have to find a better robot if you’re going to win the game. Scattered across the map are robot spawn locations weighted to spawn specific ranges of robot CPU. Those robots were broken into the following brackets for the purposes of spawning:
- 500 CPU - 749 CPU
- 750 CPU - 999 CPU
- 1000 CPU - 1249 CPU
- 1250 CPU - 1499 CPU
- 1500 CPU - 1749 CPU
- 1750 CPU - 2000 CPU
When aiming at a nearby vehicle, you’ll get a display showing the vehicle’s comparative speed, health, and equipment loadout. By pressing E, you’ll begin transferring to the new vehicle and be able to pilot it. When to transfer is a risky choice, because it takes a time to transfer during which you’ll be vulnerable. You could open yourself up to attack. Once the transfer is finished, you have complete control over that vehicle and leave your old ride behind.
Getting into a Fight
Now that you’ve got this cool robot, you’ll be looking to get into a fight, but there’s 99 other people looking for the same thing. Fighting in Robocraft Royale is a dangerous affair, and that’s because there’s no automatic healing in Robocraft Royale. Once you’ve taken damage, it’s permanent. A crippled vehicle might not be able to move or fight. Your only hope is to abandon your current vehicle and try to find a new one in your rover. Even evacuating from your vehicle is risky, because the escape process is blocked by taking fire. So you’ve have to make smart choices about when to change vehicles and when to try to evacuate your current one.
